He Calls Me Beautiful
He calls me beautiful
And I don't believe him
Because my eyes are too full
Of the tears I almost drowned in
He wraps his arms around me
And kisses my damp, salty hair
But I still can't see
Even if I know he cares
The competition has taken its toll
And I'm too tired to stand
He doesn't let me fall
So he guides me by the hand
It is like learning to walk all over again
Because I learn that rushing forward
Blind big steps lead to a tragic end
And he stays with me for the hard part
He calls me beautiful
And I don't understand
Why he's being a tool
Loving me when I can't
He has soothed me with a lullabye
In my darkest nights
In his arms I cry
I don't resist or fight
He doesn't judge my faults
As they come pouring out
He gently takes my flaws
Tying to keep the pain out
It is like falling asleep
You're unprepared for the dreams
If they're memories you keep
Or visions that tear you from the seams

And you kiss my lips
My silence is inexcusable
As you steal another kiss
I say that I love you
Like it's ever enough
You promise it too
I'm positive we're in love

I often wonder why

Why am I messed up
Answers won't be found

I love this work. It's a bit confusing, because even though I do hear you proclaiming your love to him, at first glance I thought it was a breakup poem. I love how you seem to pull out your emotions from the depths of your soul and proclaim them to the world. I write things like thus all the time for my boyfriend as well, but he hasn't seen any yet! I love your voice in this, I can really picture him holding you in his arms as you cry, and I can hear him whisper to you that you're beautiful. Such an amazing work of art, I congratulate you.
